The W65C816S CPU (aka 816) by Western Design Center (aka WDC) is at the heart of every Apple IIgs accelerator. Or should be. If you have an original 816 CPU you will not be able to run faster than 7 or 8 MHz tops. Only with this redesigned version rated at 14MHz will you be able to hit higher speeds.

The 14MHz rating is only what WDC paid to have the CPU tested at. It is known to operate at a much higher frequency. It’s just hasn’t been officially certified.
